The D2 Summit 2018

Held at Walt Disney World® Resort’s ESPN Wide World of Sports May 11-13, The D2 Summit, is the season-capping goal for many competitive all star teams.  Only the top 10% of teams in any given division earn a bid to compete at this prestigious event.  The D2 Summit included performances in the newly opened Arena at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, which officially opened in January, and is the first facility in the world built specifically for cheer and dance competitions. The 2018 D2 Summit showcased more than 1,000 teams from across the United States.

“Teams competing at The D2 Summit must receive a bid at a prior competition to be eligible to participate,” says Brian Elza, Co-General Manager and Vice President of Sales for Varsity All Star, which is comprised of multiple all star competition brands under the Varsity Spirit umbrella.  “That’s what makes The D2 Summit so rewarding for the competitors.  If they don’t climb their way to the top throughout their season, they won’t make it to The Summit.”

All star cheerleading is a discipline of cheerleading that is open to all ages and skill levels. “We like to think of All Star cheerleading as the most inclusive sport available to young athletes.  The D2 Summit provides a place for all of them to shine,” adds Tres LeTard, Co-General Manager and Vice President of Operations for Varsity All Star.

Idaho Cheer’s teams represented our state proudly.  Idaho Cheer had a record for our state and qualified 5 teams to compete at the 2018 D2 Summit. Our of those 5 teams we had 4 teams qualify for Finals.

Idaho Cheer Emeralds MS2 put on an amazing performance, and were crowned as the first ever Summit Champions from our state.  Idaho Cheer Obsidian MSC4 earned a second place finish with a jaw dropping routine in the iconic HP FieldHouse Arena.  Idaho Cheer Diamonds SJ3 placed 11th in the Nation out of 101 teams competing in their division at the D2 Summit.  Idaho Cheer Topaz SY2 placed 8th in the Nation out of 84 teams competing in their division at the D2 Summit.  Idaho Cheer Tanzanite SJ2 placed 28th out of 105 teams competing in their division at the D2 Summit

Some fun Summit Odds information by Cheer Updates:

A total of 1,241 D2 SUMMIT BIDS were awarded during the 2017-2018 cheer season. Of those bids, the following wild card, at large, and full paid bids were awarded:

Approximately 12,000 teams competed for 1,241 bids at Varsity competitions throughout the 2017-2018 cheer season. Therefore, only 10.3% of teams were talented enough to earn a bid to the D2 Summit!

In the Wild Card Round of the D2 Summit, only 1st and 2nd place will move forward to Finals and 3rd place will move to Semi-Finals (large divisions will add more) from the 22 divisions in the Wild Card Round. Only 8.4% of the Wild Card teams will advance to Sunday’s Finals and only 4.3% of the Wild Card Teams will advance to Saturday’s Semi-Final round.

And in Semi-Finals, only the top 5-14 teams will advance to Finals on Sunday at the D2 Summit (based on the size of your division). Your chances of moving to Finals on average is 38.1%.

And if you reach the peak, and become a D2 Summit Champion, the average odds of winning your division among your fellow competitors at the D2 Summit are only 2.7%!!

But when you go back to the beginning when approximately 12,000 teams competed for a D2 Summit Bid, YOUR ODDS OF WINNING THE D2 SUMMIT ARE ONLY 0.26%!!!

We are thrilled to announce that Idaho Cheer Tanzanite is going to The D2 Summit on a full paid bid!  Not only did they have the highest level 2 score, but also earned the HIGHEST SCORE of the ENTIRE event!  We are over the moon proud of these hardworking ladies and their passionate coaches.  That makes a grand total of FIVE teams from Idaho Cheer attending the D2 Summit!

March 23-24, 2017

The Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake City, UT

What an incredible weekend in Portland.  Our teams were among the TOP SCORES at the entire event D1&D2, and it was so gratifying to see all of our hard work pay off.  Our athletes have been working hard all season, and have continued to up their difficulty all season, while also pushing to perfect technique.  We were so proud to see so many ZERO deduction routines, and we were also excited about the new jackets!  What was most fun is having our whole All Star program there to cheer each other on, and to celebrate each team's success.  We have THE BEST fans!
